Another Summer X Games has come and gone. Medals were won, records were broken
and the inevitable wipeouts kept competitors and spectators alike on alert all weekend long.
The Skate Vert contest was particularly intense as Oakley’s Shaun White, looking to
improve upon last year’s silver medal performance, went head to head to with fellow fan
favorite Pierre-Luc Gagnon on Saturday night. The final literally came down to the last run,
but Shaun, whose Signature Series Gold Collection comes out this month, would not be
denied. “This is the second time I’ve ever won Summer X Games,” said Shaun. “I’m beside
myself.”

Fellow Oakley skater Bob Burnquist also headed into X Games 17 with gold on his mind. It
had been two years since he last found himself atop the X Games Big Air podium and on
Friday he wasn’t about to let anyone get between him and a third Skate Big Air gold medal.
“I am really happy that I made my run and the judges felt it was first place,” said Bob. “I am
stoked about that and it feels great to be on top, obviously.”
Rounding out Oakley’s skate standouts was Ryan Sheckler who pulled out all the stops
during the Skate Street Final to take home the bronze medal behind Nyjah Huston and
Luan Oliveira. While not the fourth gold medal he was aiming for, Ryan acknowledged the
level of talent among the field saying, “Every contest is different and it can be anyone’s day
at any time.”
Oakley’s Moto X athletes shined over the weekend as well capturing three additional X
Games medals.
In the fan favorite Best Trick event, defending gold medalist Cameron Sinclair fought the
good fight with a sweetly executed knack-knack double backflip to take the silver medal
behind fellow Australian Jackson Strong. While Dany Torres of Spain claimed the Moto X
Freestyle bronze medal after failing to advance past round one in 2010. “I’m really happy to
compete in X Games and with my third-place result,” Torres said.
The final event of the weekend was the all-new Enduro X competition. The debut of Enduro
X was nothing short of exciting as riders raced 10 laps around a course littered with boulder
fields, a pond, wood logs and bank turns. When all was said and done X Games rookie
Mike Brown emerged from his maiden X Games performance with the silver medal after
finishing just 14 seconds behind the winner and fellow rookie Taddy Blazusiak.
“It’s my first time at X Games and it was great,” said Mike. “It’s fun to watch and there’s
always something going on in this sport. I hope we get to come back again next year and
put on a good show for everyone.”
“We couldn’t be more proud of our Action Sports athletes who competed at the 17th
Summer X Games. The intense competitive spirit surrounding the Gold medal victories of
Bob Burnquist and Shaun White will be on the highlight reels for many years to come,” said
Matt Swanson, Director of Oakley Sports Marketing – Action Sports. “Oakley prides itself on
the athletes who represent the brand and the support we provide them. I’m honored to give
sincere thanks to all the athletes who competed in this legendary event in Los Angeles.”
